Chapter 12 - The Evidence

It was the hunter. He was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the shoulder, but the three men lay motionless on the floor behind him. "You need to leave. Now," he groaned. "More will come." She scrambled out, helping him sit against the wall. She found a first aid kit and quickly bandaged his wound. Before leaving, she searched the pockets of the men on the floor. In the leader's jacket, she found a sleek satellite phone and a folded piece of paper. She opened it. It was a printed email from her husband, detailing a series of offshore accounts and wire transfers used to bribe federal judges—the very evidence he thought he had destroyed before she left. This was why he was so desperate to find her; he thought she had the files. Now, she actually did. She looked at the satellite phone, realizing it was her only leverage. She dialed her husband's private number. He answered on the first ring. "I have the emails," she said coldly. "Call off your men." Her husband let out a dark, cruel laugh. "Look outside the window, darling."
