Chapter 13: An Unbroken Decree
On October 14, the Rhode Island Family Court issued its final, unappealable decree in *Nolan v. Sterling*.
Judge Arthur Vance signed the golden-sealed order:
* Clara was granted **Permanent Sole Legal and Sole Physical Custody** of Lily.
* Julian’s parental visitation was conditioned on the completion of his federal sentence and two years of verified psychological rehabilitation.
* Clara’s maiden name was permanently restored: **Dr. Clara Nolan**.
* Lily’s legal name was permanently registered as **Lily Clara Nolan**.
* All corporate assets, intellectual property, and the Bristol cottage were declared Clara’s unencumbered sole property.
As Clara, Marcus Chen, and Owen walked down the historic granite steps of the courthouse into the crisp autumn sunshine, Marcus handed Clara the certified decree.
""You have won total, unconditional freedom, Clara,"" Marcus smiled warmly. ""You built a fortress that no one can ever touch.""
Clara held the paper against her heart, looking up at the blue coastal sky.
