Chapter 14: The Final Word

The neon lights of the downtown intersection cast a harsh, dramatic glow over the confrontation on the courthouse steps. Catherine Vance stood tall, her eyes cold and predatory, expecting to see defeat written across Julian and Elena’s faces. Valerie hovered just behind her, wearing a smug grin that matched her shiny gold jumpsuit, which she had apparently changed into once more to celebrate her perceived victory.

Julian did not flinch. He stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Elena, his posture completely relaxed, radiating an aura of absolute control that made even Catherine hesitate for a fractional second.

“You’re right about one thing, Catherine,” Julian said, his voice carrying clearly across the quiet pavement. “Midnight has arrived.”

He reached into his briefcase, pulling out the certified, stamped copy of Judge Harrison’s emergency federal injunction. He stepped forward, handing the document directly into Catherine’s manicured hands.

“And with it, the termination of your fraudulent trust,” Julian finished smoothly.

Catherine’s eyes scanned the legal document, her smug expression dissolving into sheer disbelief as her gaze hit the judge’s signature and the explicit mention of fraudulent inducement and federal fraud investigation. Her color drained rapidly, the mink coat suddenly looking far too heavy for her trembling shoulders. Behind her, Valerie peered over Catherine’s shoulder, her jaw dropping as she realized the game was entirely over.

“This... this is impossible,” Catherine hissed, her voice shaking with rage and panic. “You can’t—the contract was absolute!”

“The contract was a fraud, engineered by a criminal syndicate that included your nephew-in-law, who has already signed a full confession,” Julian replied coldly, stepping back to stand beside Elena once more. “Federal marshals are currently securing your assets as we speak. If I ever see you, or your pathetic pawn Valerie, anywhere near my home or my family again, the next document you receive won't be an injunction—it will be a prison transfer order.”

Catherine opened her mouth to argue, but the distant wail of sirens cut through the night air as unmarked federal vehicles pulled up to the curb, their lights flashing blue and red against the stone facade. Catherine clutched the paper to her chest, glaring daggers at Julian before turning on her heel and scrambling back into her town car, slamming the door shut as the driver sped off into the night, leaving Valerie stranded on the pavement to stare in utter bewilderment.
