THE HOUSE OF WHITE LILIES / Chapter 1 / 15

Chapter 1

The massive black iron gates swung outward with a slow, deliberate grace, their heavy hinges whispering against the crisp morning air. Beyond them lay the sprawling expanse of Blackwood Manor, a monument to old European architecture and secretive wealth. Immaculate geometric gardens flanked the pristine stone pathways, where circular fountains pulsed with crystal-clear water, catching the bright daylight in brilliant arcs of spray.

Rows of estate staff in impeccably tailored formal gray uniforms and sharp black suits stood at absolute attention along the drive. Their postures were rigid, faces neutral, embodying the silent discipline demanded by the household. Two senior staff members carefully carried a massive, handcrafted blue and white porcelain vase filled with freshly cut white lilies across the paved courtyard. The blooms were impossibly pristine, their heavy fragrance drifting faintly on the breeze as the pair approached the towering mansion entrance.

Inside, the double carved wooden doors swung inward to reveal a breathtaking interior hallway. A sweeping mahogany staircase curved upward beneath a glittering crystal chandelier, casting prismatic light across polished marble floors. Staff members moved with quiet precision, adjusting floral arrangements and ensuring every detail of the grand foyer met exacting standards.

In the entryway, a young staff member named Julian in a crisp black and white uniform knelt slightly to adjust a silver decorative bowl resting on a polished mahogany console table. His hands were steady, though a subtle tightness around his eyes betrayed an inner tension. Today was not a normal day at Blackwood Manor. It was the anniversary of the family's darkest hour, and the estate was bracing for the arrival of its elusive master, Richard Blackwood, who had been absent for five long years.

High above, a drone camera hovered silently against the brilliant blue sky, capturing the breathtaking overview of the estate’s symmetrical gardens and grand architecture. From this altitude, the property looked like an island of absolute order. Yet, beneath the polished surface, old wounds and hidden truths were about to resurface. Julian straightened his jacket, taking a slow, measured breath. He knew that whatever transpired behind these carved wooden doors today would change the fate of everyone living within these walls forever. The heavy iron gates had opened, and there was no turning back.
