Chapter 15: The Unbroken Circle

The heavy front doors of Blackwood Estate stood wide open, welcoming the cool autumn breeze into the grand entrance hall for the first time in twenty years. The crystal chandeliers caught the morning light, casting brilliant, dancing refractions across the polished parquet floor where Clara had stood soaked and shivering just days before.
Evelyn stood at the top of the grand staircase, her hand resting lightly on the polished wooden banister. She watched as Clara walked across the hall toward the open doors, her steps light and unburdened. The golden locket rested securely around Clara’s neck, the blue gemstone catching the sunlight and glowing with a deep, serene brilliance.
Arthur stood near the entrance, holding a basket of fresh pruning shears and gardening gloves, ready to tackle the overgrown roses outside. The air smelled of damp earth, fallen leaves, and the sharp, clean promise of a new beginning.
Clara paused at the threshold, turning back to look up at the old woman standing on the landing. There were no words needed between them anymore; the silence that had once been a weapon of destruction was now a space of mutual understanding and shared redemption.
"We have a lot of weeding to do," Clara said with a small, genuine smile.

Evelyn nodded, a faint, rare smile touching the corners of her mouth as she looked down at her granddaughter. "Then I suggest we get started before the sun gets too high."
As Clara stepped out onto the stone porch, the wind gently stirred her reddish-brown braids, carrying away the last remnants of the past. The shadows that had haunted the estate for two decades dissolved into the morning light, leaving behind a house no longer defined by its ghosts, but by the living souls who finally had the courage to let them go. The heavy iron gates at the end of the long driveway remained wide open, welcoming the world back inside.
