Chapter 8: The Interim Authority

The federal broadcast finished its automated loop, cutting cleanly to a secure holding screen while sirens began wailing in the distance—the local authorities, alerted by the automated Department of Justice uplink, finally arriving at the resort perimeter. The heavy glass entry doors remained sealed by the facility’s emergency lockdown protocols, creating an impenetrable bubble around the grand lobby where the final act of the corporate drama was playing out.

Two federal agents in dark tactical windbreakers bearing the insignia of the financial crimes division materialized behind the sealed glass, flashing their credentials at Julian. The desk clerk didn't hesitate; he pressed the manual override button on the master console, granting the agents immediate entry. The pneumatic seals hissed open, letting in the cool morning air and the flashing red and blue lights of police cruisers idling outside.

The agents strode into the lobby with quiet, purposeful authority, ignoring the stunned cluster of high-end guests. They bypassed Elena, who was now leaning against the marble pillar in a state of clinical shock, and walked straight toward Maya Somor.

“Are you Maya Somor?” the lead agent asked, his tone respectful yet professionally detached as he checked a digital tablet against her bruised features and the silver founder badge resting in her hand.

“I am,” Maya replied, her voice steady and clear, carrying the quiet gravity of a true executive resuming command.

“We have an active federal warrant for the arrest of Elena Vance based on the decrypted asset files and Dr. Vance's deposition,” the agent said, nodding toward the weeping, defeated woman by the pillar. He then turned his focus back to Maya. “Furthermore, under emergency corporate guardianship protocols triggered by founder token zero-zero-one, all executive decisions and asset management rights revert immediately to your direct oversight. You are officially the acting CEO of Somor Global Hospitality.”

A heavy, profound silence settled over the lobby, punctuated only by the distant wail of sirens outside. Julian let out a quiet breath of relief, stepping back to allow the chain of command to reassert itself.

Elena lifted her head, her mascara running down her bruised ego, her voice trembling with a mixture of terror and lingering malice. “You can’t just hand over a multi-billion-dollar enterprise to a woman who crawled out of a gutter! The board has to vote! The shareholders have to approve!”

“The board answers to the founder’s trust, Elena, and the trust is tied directly to this piece of metal,” Maya said coldly, holding up the silver badge one last time before slipping it securely into the inner pocket of her torn grey shirt. She looked past Elena, addressing the federal agents and the gathering hotel staff with absolute command. “Officer, please escort Ms. Vance to a secure interrogation room. Ensure all her personal devices are confiscated immediately to prevent any remote asset liquidation.”

The agents moved swiftly. Elena didn’t scream or fight; she had realized that every ounce of resistance was now completely futile. As they placed the cold steel cuffs around her wrists and led her past the towering glass doors and out into the flashing lights of the police cruisers, the grand lobby watched in hushed awe as the false queen was carried away by the very system she had manipulated.
