Chapter 11 - The Broadcast

The sudden, deafening roar of audio feedback shrieked through the house, bouncing off the walls of the living room and echoing out into the night. Every smart device, television, and computer monitor blared a crystal-clear, unedited audio stream that filled the tense space with undeniable proof.
Voices spilled from the speakers—Richard’s cold, calculating tone discussing the framing of innocent security guards; Agent Vance’s authorizing signatures on illegal asset seizures; and the explicit, meticulous planning of a multi-million-dollar federal cover-up. The digital trap had not been sprung by Richard; it had been set by Mark weeks ago, anticipating this exact night, syncing every piece of physical and digital evidence directly to a secure cloud server programmed to release upon his biometric heartbeat stopping or a manual override code being entered.
Richard froze, his triumphant smile instantly melting into a mask of pure, unadulterated panic. He lunged forward, desperately reaching for the nearest television to rip the power cord from the wall, but it was already too much, too late.
“Turn that off! Shut it down now!” Richard screamed, his cultured composure completely shattering as he looked around wildly at the tactical operators, who had lowered their weapons, staring at him in stunned betrayal.
Mark stood his ground, his massive frame blocking the hallway leading to the master bedroom where Clara and the children were hidden. His breathing was slow, controlled, and steady, contrasting sharply with Richard’s frantic, erratic movements.
“You can’t shut down the DOJ mainframes, Richard,” Mark said, his voice cutting through the audio feedback with absolute authority. “The moment you stepped into my house tonight, your entire syndicate’s communications were logged, time-stamped, and cross-referenced with federal warrants signed by an independent judge outside your jurisdiction.”
Agent Vance stumbled through the shattered front window frame, her trench coat torn, her face white as a sheet. She stared at the nearest speaker in sheer disbelief.
“That’s impossible,” Vance breathed, her voice shaking. “We scrubbed all external network relays within a fifty-mile radius.”
“You forgot about analog satellite uplifts,” Mark replied coldly, taking a slow step forward. “Old school tech. Hard to hack when it’s wired directly into an independent offshore relay.”
Richard turned on Vance, his eyes wild with fury. “You said his security was isolated! You said he didn't have a backup!”
“He didn't!” Vance yelled back, her professional veneer completely gone as she pointed an accusing finger at Mark. “He played us. The whole thing—the cake, the broken window, the missing ledger—it was all a diversion to buy time for the upload!”

Mark didn't deny it. Every piece of the nightmare they had lived through tonight had been a calculated chess move. He had deliberately let them breach
