Chapter 6 - The Midnight Meeting

The rain drummed a relentless, heavy tattoo against the tinted glass of the private VIP booth inside The Obsidian Lounge, an ultra-exclusive subterranean club located three blocks away from Sterling Global Tower. The air inside was thick with the scent of aged bourbon, expensive cigar smoke, and hushed secrets.

Victoria Sterling pulled her trench coat tighter around her shoulders, shivering despite the warmth of the room. Her face was pale, devoid of its usual arrogant glow, and dark circles bruised the skin beneath her eyes. She kept glancing nervously toward the heavy velvet curtain draped over the entrance of the booth.

A shadow fell across the low table as the curtain was pulled back. A tall, impeccably dressed man with sharp, predatory features and a cold, calculating smile stepped into the booth without waiting for an invitation. Marcus Vance slid smoothly onto the leather banquette opposite Victoria, crossing his long legs with infuriating ease.

"Victoria," Marcus murmured, his voice a smooth, oily baritone that scraped against her frayed nerves. "Word travels fast in this city. I hear you had a rather... explosive exit from your little corporate kingdom today."

Victoria clenched her jaw, her fingernails digging painfully into the palms of her hands inside her coat pockets. "Spare me the theatrics, Marcus. You know why I’m here. My accounts are frozen, the SEC is breathing down my neck, and Julian Sterling has launched a full forensic audit. If I go down, I'm taking everything I know about the Sterling board’s confidential offshore accounts down with me."

Marcus chuckled softly, lifting a glass of amber liquid as a silent waiter materialized from the gloom to pour him a drink. "And what makes you think I care about the Sterling board's bookkeeping? Sterling Global is a fortress. Impenetrable supply chains, loyal shareholders, and a family that treats business like a moral crusade. My board has been trying to crack them for five years."

Victoria leaned forward across the low mahogany table, her eyes burning with a manic, desperate intensity. "What if I told you I didn't just know their bookkeeping, Marcus? What if I downloaded the complete, encrypted master blueprint of their automated global logistics network before my clearance was revoked?"

The glass paused halfway to Marcus’s mouth. The amusement vanished from his sharp features, replaced by a sudden, predatory gleam. He set the glass down slowly, leaning his elbows on the table and locking his dark eyes onto hers.

"The master blueprint?" Marcus repeated, his voice dropping to a harsh whisper. "The one that controls every automated shipping hub, warehouse node, and inventory algorithm they operate globally?"

"Every single one," Victoria whispered triumphantly, a bitter smile touching her lips. "With that data, your logistics network could intercept their primary shipping routes, underbid their contracts, and bleed them dry within six months. It would cripple Julian Sterling so badly he’d be begging me to take over."

Marcus stared at her for a long, calculating moment, weighing the risks, the legality, and the sheer destructive potential of the offer. "Data like that comes with a very high price tag, Victoria. If the Sterling legal team traces this back to me, I’m looking at federal conspiracy charges alongside you."

"I don't want money, Marcus," Victoria hissed, her voice trembling with hatred. "I want immunity, a clean passport, and enough capital to start fresh in Zurich. And above all else... I want Julian Sterling destroyed."

Marcus leaned back against the leather cushions, a slow, dangerous smile spreading across his face. "A tempting proposal. But before we shake hands on treason, I need to verify that your flash drive actually contains what you claim it does. Hand it over."

May you like

Victoria reached into her coat pocket, her fingers closing around a small, matte-black USB drive. But as she pulled it out, a blinding flash of light suddenly illuminated the dark booth.
