Chapter 10: Confrontation at the Summit

The lobby of the Vance Global Trust headquarters was a masterpiece of modern architecture—sleek glass, polished concrete, and towering green living walls that breathed life into the corporate space. Julian pushed through the revolving glass doors, his appearance a stark contrast to the immaculate environment. His tuxedo jacket was wrinkled, his tie was slightly askew, and the arrogant swagger that had once defined his stride was entirely gone.
As he approached the front security desk, the receptionist—a sharp-eyed young woman named Sarah—looked up from her console and immediately pressed a silent alert button under the counter.
“Mr. Vance,” Sarah said, her tone polite but ice-cold. “You are not authorized to be in this building. Security has already been notified.”
“I don’t want trouble,” Julian said, holding up his hands defensively as two burly security guards materialized from the corridor behind the reception desk. “I just need five minutes with Elena. Tell her Julian is here. She’ll see me.”
“Ms. Vance is currently in a board meeting and cannot be disturbed,” Sarah replied firmly.
“Tell her it’s about the foundation of everything she holds dear,” Julian urged, his voice rising in desperation as the security guards stepped closer to him, positioning themselves on either side of his arms.
Before the guards could grab him, the private elevator chime echoed through the lobby. The heavy steel doors slid open, and Marcus stepped out, followed closely by Elena. She was dressed in her sharp charcoal suit, reviewing a tablet as she walked. She paused mid-step when she saw Julian standing a few yards away, flanked by security.
The lobby fell into an absolute, breathless silence. Elena looked at Julian—at the crumpled suit, the tired lines around his eyes, and the desperate pleading in his posture. There was no triumph in her expression, no cruel smirk of vengeance, only a quiet, profound pity that stung Julian worse than any insult could have.
“Let him speak,” Elena instructed softly, gesturing for the guards to step back.
Julian took a hesitant step forward, his chest tight with a mixture of shame and lingering pride. He looked into Elena’s steady, dark eyes, realizing for the first time just how much strength lived behind that calm exterior.
“Elena,” Julian began, his voice cracking slightly. “I know... I know how I treated you. I know what I did in that hotel lobby. But please, you have to understand. We built that empire together. You can’t just erase ten years of my life over a moment of corporate restructuring.”
Elena didn’t flinch. She tilted her head slightly, studying him with the analytical detachment of a surgeon examining a tumor.
May you like
“Ten years, Julian?” Elena said, her voice smooth and chillingly calm. “You didn’t build an empire. You built a house of cards on top of my inheritance, and then you tried to lock the doors to keep me out of the very foundation.”
