Chapter 3

The golden halo expanded outward, casting long, dancing shadows across the brick facade of the donut shop and the stunned faces of the evening commuters. The ordinary street corner dissolved into a quiet, sacred space where time seemed to slow to a crawl. Arthur remained seated on the brick ledge, clutching the box of donuts and the sandwich in his lap, his breath catching in his chest as the light coalesced into a breathtaking, divine apparition.

Out of the brilliant illumination stepped a figure cloaked in robes of purest white, radiating a peaceful authority that instantly quieted the chaotic sounds of the city. It was an unmistakable presence, evoking ancient peace and infinite compassion. In his hands, the glowing figure held a large, heavy leather duffel bag stuffed to the brim with stacks of bundled cash. The onlookers on the sidewalk froze, some pressing their hands to their mouths in utter disbelief, others dropping their grocery bags as they bore witness to the impossible scene.

The divine figure stepped closer to Arthur, the golden halo casting a warm glow over the old man’s tattered brown jacket and silver hair. The air smelled faintly of frankincense and fresh rain, masking the exhaust fumes of the avenue. The figure locked eyes with Arthur, a gentle, understanding smile touching his lips, bridging the infinite chasm between the divine and the utterly forgotten.

With a voice that resonated not merely through the air, but deep within the souls of everyone present, the figure spoke the timeless blessing. β€œMay God bless you and your family.” The words hung suspended in the crisp night air, carrying a weight of profound grace that went far beyond the physical wealth resting in the leather bag.

Before anyone could shout a question or lurch forward to touch the hem of the white robes, the glowing figure gently lowered the heavy duffel bag onto the sidewalk right beside Arthur’s worn boots. The zipper of the bag glinted in the amber light, revealing neat rows of currency that could change a thousand lives. Arthur stared down at the bag, his mind racing to comprehend the sheer magnitude of the moment, while the divine light slowly began to recede, leaving behind the normal hum of the city street.
