Chapter 9: Unraveling the Web

The forensic audit of Beatrice’s financial records revealed a sprawling network of deception that went far beyond simple embezzlement. Julian and Marcus spent hours pouring over spreadsheets in the penthouse study, tracing wire transfers, shell companies, and high-end purchases spanning nearly five years. It turned out that the monthly five thousand dollars Julian had dutifully wired was merely the baseline of Beatrice’s financial extraction.
"Look at this," Marcus pointed to a highlighted line item on a ledger dated eighteen months prior. "She liquidated a trust fund your paternal grandfather set up for Lily’s future education. She forged your signature on the authorization documents, claiming you needed the liquidity for a real estate investment."
Julian stared at the screen, a cold numbness settling over him. "She systematically looted everything she could touch," he murmured. "My father left us with nothing when he walked out, but he made sure his granddaughter’s future was protected. And Beatrice stole that too."
"We can attach her primary estate, her private investment portfolio, and all liquid assets currently parked in the offshore accounts," Marcus explained, his tone strictly professional. "By the time the civil suits and criminal charges are fully processed, she won't just be disgraced socially; she’ll be legally bankrupt."
"I don't want her wealth, Marcus," Julian said firmly. "I want every single dime recovered placed directly into a secure, untouchable trust for Lily. And I want Beatrice held fully accountable under the law. No family discounts, no quiet settlements behind closed doors."
Marcus nodded in understanding. "The District Attorney’s office is preparing formal indictments for grand larceny, wire fraud, and child endangerment. Because of Senator Sterling’s political visibility, the press is already circling like hawks. A reporter from the national financial daily has been calling my office nonstop."
"Give them the statement," Julian decided after a brief moment of hesitation. "Let the public know exactly what kind of monsters hide behind high-society gowns and multi-tiered wedding cakes. Sunlight is the best disinfectant."

The following morning, the front page of every major newspaper and financial news site broke the story. The headline blazoned across the digital screens read: High-Society Wedding Interrupted: Elite Socialite Exposed in Granddaughter Neglect and Embezzlement Scandal. Accompanying the articles were screenshots of the wedding reception chaos—Julian holding Lily, Beatrice standing defensively by the cake, and the undeniable documentation of systemic abuse. Senator Sterling’s office announced his immediate separation from Beatrice within hours of publication, further isolating the disgraced socialite in her crumbling mansion.
