Chapter 7 - The Legal Siege

The courtyard fountain continued its cheerful splash, providing a surreal, mocking soundtrack to the destruction of Marcus’s professional life. The two police officers stood a respectful distance behind the attorney, their hands resting near their utility belts, waiting to ensure the injunction was served without physical resistance.

Marcus didn't move. He stood tall, his white tuxedo jacket catching the afternoon sun as he stared down the corporate lawyer with unblinking intensity.

"Apex Holdings doesn't exist," Marcus said, his voice steady and controlled. "It’s a shell corporation registered in the Caymans. It holds no legal standing in this state without a physical brick-and-mortar office and a verified board of directors."

The attorney’s smile didn't waver. He reached into his leather briefcase, pulled out a thick stack of embossed papers, and handed them directly to Marcus.

"We acquired three local development firms last Tuesday, Mr. Vance," the attorney replied smoothly. "Your father’s firm was the cornerstone of that portfolio. As of twenty minutes ago, when the marriage contract between you and Ms. Reynolds was officially registered with the county clerk through your pre-signed registry filing, the cross-collateralization clause activated automatically. Your personal assets are now tied to her commercial liabilities, which were wholly owned by Apex Holdings."

Maya stepped forward, her face flushed with righteous fury. "That clause was fraudulent! I signed it under duress while my mother was in intensive care! No court in the country will uphold an agreement signed under medical coercion!"

The attorney glanced at Maya dismissively. "Tell it to the judge, Ms. Reynolds. But until a civil court hears your injunction motion—which, given the holiday weekend, won't happen until Tuesday morning—Apex Holdings controls your studio, your mother’s house, and Mr. Vance’s entire real estate portfolio."

David stepped up beside his sister, his fists clenched at his sides. "This is racketeering. You and Julian are running a white-collar extortion racket disguised as venture capital."

"Watch your accusations, young man," the attorney warned, his tone hardening just slightly before he turned back to Marcus. "Mr. Vance, you have one hour to clear your personal belongings out of your downtown office. Cooperate, and we won't press charges for interference of corporate restructuring."

Marcus looked down at the documents in his hands. Every page was stamped, signed, and legally airtight. Julian hadn't just crashed a wedding; he had executed a masterclass in financial warfare, using Maya’s desperation as the Trojan horse to breach the gates of Marcus’s empire.

"Tell Julian he won the battle," Marcus said quietly, lifting his gaze to meet the attorney’s eyes. "Tell him the wedding is officially canceled, the partnership is dissolved, and I am walking away from the table right now."

The attorney raised an eyebrow. "Walking away? Mr. Vance, you don't have anything left to walk away to. Your accounts are empty."

"That's where you're wrong," Marcus replied, a cold, dangerous glint appearing in his eyes. "You took the corporate accounts. You took the land. But you didn't check the private trust fund my grandfather set up before he passed away—a trust that cannot be touched by corporate debt, shell companies, or fraudulent marriage clauses."

The attorney’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second.
