Chapter 7

The silence that followed Julian’s declaration was absolute, broken only by the rhythmic hum of the boardroom’s overhead ventilation system. Arthur Sterling dropped back into his leather chair, the color entirely draining from his face. His carefully cultivated aura of corporate invincibility evaporated in an instant, leaving behind the panicked expression of a cornered animal. He looked toward Marcus, silently pleading for backup, but Marcus was already staring at the media console with hollow, disbelieving eyes.

Victor Vanguard slowly pushed his reading glasses up onto his forehead. His weathered hands trembled, not from weakness this time, but from a sudden, searing wave of profound betrayal. He looked at his son, his voice dropping to a harsh, gravelly whisper. "Marcus... is this true? Have you been bleeding our company dry behind my back?"

Marcus swallowed hard, attempting to force a dismissive laugh, but it died ignominiously in his throat. "Father, don't listen to them. They’re disgruntled employees. Julian is bitter about a promotion, and Elena has always resented her place in the family. They’ve fabricated these files to stage a coup against the board."

"Fabricated?" Julian stepped forward, opening the leather folder to reveal signed bank authorizations and physical wire instructions bearing Marcus’s signature alongside Arthur’s. "These aren't digital mock-ups, Marcus. These are wet-ink authorizations routed through Swiss accounts that you personally opened under the corporate alias Vanguard Holdings International. I have the notarized registry records right here."

Several independent directors around the table recoiled in horror, immediately pushing their chairs back from Arthur and Marcus as if physical proximity to them might somehow implicate their own reputations. One director, an elderly woman who had served on the board for thirty years, covered her mouth with a trembling hand, staring at the half-signed contract on the table with undisguised disgust.

Elena stood tall, her hands resting calmly on the edge of the mahogany table. She felt no triumph, only a cold, sobering sense of closure. "The board didn't authorize this restructuring, Grandfather," she said gently, looking down at the old man. "They were lied to, manipulated by a cabal of executives who valued short-term greed over long-term stability. The audit is complete. The board’s legal duty now is to protect the company, not shelter criminals."

Arthur suddenly surged to his feet, his composure completely shattered. He pointed a shaking finger at Elena, spittle flying from his lips. "You ruined everything, you arrogant little bitch! You think you’ve won, but men like us don't go down alone!" He lunged toward the media console, desperately trying to grab the micro-SD card before the data could propagate further.
