Chapter 15: The Unbroken Circle

The autumn leaves had turned the Canadian hillsides into a breathtaking tapestry of fiery crimson, burnt orange, and deep gold. It was nearly a year since the night that changed everything—the night of the spilled red wine, the harsh slap, the silent guests, and the desperate dash into the freezing snowstorm.

Inside the cozy kitchen of the lakeside farmhouse, the air was filled with the rich, comforting aroma of roasted apples and cinnamon. Daniel stood by the wooden counter, carefully rolling out pie dough while sunlight streamed through the windowpanes, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the afternoon air.

Suddenly, the kitchen door flew open, and Dani rushed inside, her arms full of freshly picked wildflowers gathered from the edge of the woods. She was wearing a bright blue sweater, her long blonde hair tied back with a simple red ribbon, her cheeks rosy from the crisp autumn air. Behind her trotted Buster, the white Samoyed, now larger and more sure-footed, carrying a stick in his jaws.

“Daddy, look what I found by the creek! The leaves are turning purple and red!” Dani exclaimed excitedly, placing the bouquet into a mason jar filled with water on the kitchen table.

Daniel smiled warmly, wiping flour from his hands onto a checkered kitchen towel and walking over to her. He knelt down so he was eye-level with his daughter, examining the vibrant wildflowers with genuine admiration. “Those are magnificent, Dani. I think this is the best bouquet you’ve ever picked.”
