Chapter 9: Confrontation on Cold Waters**
Dominic approached slowly, terrified that a sudden movement would shatter the moment. When the floorboard creaked, Elena turned.
Her breath caught. Terror flashed across her eyes, followed by deep, agonizing sorrow. She instinctively gathered her bag to move away.
"Elena, please," Dominic choked out, falling to his knees beside her seat so he was beneath her eye level. "Don't run. Please just listen to me."
"How did you find me?" her voice trembled, tears immediately welling in her green eyes. "Victoria told me... she said you agreed to pay me off to disappear. She said you wanted the baby erased from your legacy."

"It was a lie," Dominic whispered, tears spilling freely down his cheeks. "They burned the ultrasound in front of me. I walked away from the company, from everything. I came to beg for your forgiveness."
