Chapter 10: The Digital Broadside

Before Eleanor could formulate a caustic response, the massive electronic billboard towering over the far side of the plaza suddenly flickered. The commercial advertisements for luxury cars and high-end cosmetics abruptly vanished, replaced by a stark, high-resolution image of the original 1998 corporate ledger page bearing Eleanor Vance’s signature in distinctive violet ink.

Gasps echoed through the surrounding streets as late-night commuters, pedestrians, and lingering tourists stopped dead in their tracks, turning their heads upward to stare at the illuminated screen. Beneath the ledger image, scrolling text detailed the systematic buyout, the forged bankruptcy filings, and the predatory acquisition of Miller & Associates.

Eleanor spun around, her face draining of color as she stared up at the giant screen dominating the city skyline. Her manicured hands clenched into tight fists at her sides, the veneer of untouchable power finally cracking completely under the sheer weight of undeniable public exposure.

“What have you done?” Eleanor whispered, her voice trembling for the first time since their encounter at the gala.

“I told you,” Clara said softly, stepping closer until she stood right beside the older woman, watching the giant screen illuminate both their faces in harsh, unblinking white light. “I’m finishing what you started.”

Down the street, Marcus Brody stood by his parked car, tapping his tablet screen with a satisfied grin as the automated distribution script routed the data package to every major independent news outlet across the tri-state area. The viral gala spray had captured the city’s attention, but this digital broadside ensured they would never look away again.

Eleanor stood frozen, realizing with sudden, crushing clarity that her immense financial leverage, her high-priced legal team, and her decades of institutional control could not protect her from the blinding light of the truth. Passersby were already pulling out their phones, recording the billboard, whispering, and connecting the dots in real time. The empire built on shadows was collapsing under the weight of a single, unyielding memory.
