Chapter 1 - The Cold Floor and the Crown

The heavy crystal chandelier above the mahogany dining table cast a brilliant, cold light across the polished floorboards of the grand estate. Clara stood tall in her shimmering strapless beige gown, her long brown hair cascading down her back like liquid silk. The diamond necklace at her throat caught the light, gleaming with a vulgar display of wealth. With deliberate slowness, she reached out her manicured hand and pulled the heavy dining chair away just as little Lily reached for it. The toddler in the pristine white dress lost her balance, tumbling backward onto the woven rug with a soft, helpless thud.
Clara looked down at the child, her expression entirely devoid of maternal warmth. She adjusted the cuff of her dress before speaking in a low, poisonous whisper.
“My son sits with family, beg on the ground.”
From the shadows of the arched hallway, heavy footsteps echoed against the stone. Jax stepped into the light. The tall man with dark hair, a short beard, and intricate tattoos covering his neck and hands stared at the scene with a gaze colder than winter ice. He wore a sharp black shirt and a dark suit jacket, radiating an aura of suppressed violence. Lily pointed a trembling little finger toward the open corridor where expensive leather luggage bags stood stacked against the wall.
“Daddy,” Lily sobbed softly, rubbing her knee. “She packed my room too.”
Jax’s jaw tightened, the muscles ticking beneath his skin. He didn't raise his voice, yet the temperature in the room dropped significantly. Before he could take a step forward, Arthur, a corporate executive dressed in a sharp navy blue suit and matching tie, stepped up with a smug, dismissive smirk. Arthur gestured toward the dark hallway with a wave of his hand, completely underestimating the dangerous man standing before him.
“She can sleep in the storage room,” Arthur said, chuckling lightly as if sharing a private joke with the rest of the silent, terrified dinner guests.
In a fraction of a second, the air left the room. Jax moved with terrifying, blinding speed. His hand shot out, grabbing Arthur by the lapels of his navy blue suit. With one fluid, brutal motion, Jax hurled the full-grown man backward. Arthur flew through the air, crashing violently into the plaster wall and smashing straight through a heavy velvet rope stanchion. The brass post clattered loudly against the floorboards, echoing through the cavernous hall. Clara gasped in sharp, genuine shock, her hand flying to her diamond necklace.
Jax stepped forward, standing over the groaning man pinned against the ruined wall. He stared down with an intensity that promised absolute ruin.
“You took her chair and packed her room,” Jax growled, his voice a low vibration that shook the foundations of the house. “Now pack yours.”

Arthur slid down the wall, clutching his bruised ribs and gasping for breath. Clara’s face drained of all color as she realized the grave mistake she had made, but before she could utter a single word of defense, Jax turned his gaze from Arthur and locked his piercing eyes directly onto a hidden security camera mounted in the corner molding, revealing that this entire sadistic setup had been broadcast live to the board of directors.
