Chapter 3: Protocol Zero

"Lock up all funds and terminate his employment immediately," Clara instructed the voice on the other end of the encrypted line, her tone leaving zero room for debate or administrative delay. The voice belonged to Marcus Vance, the managing partner of the holding company that owned eighty percent of Zenith Global’s underlying real estate and debt obligations—a holding company whose majority voting shares belonged entirely to Clara’s family trust.

Julian stumbled backward, colliding heavily against the reception desk. All the blood drained from his face, leaving him looking like a ghost trapped inside a bespoke Italian suit. "Clara, wait. You can’t—that’s corporate suicide. You don't have the authority to—" Julian stammered, his professional facade completely shattering into pathetic panic.

Elena’s smug expression vanished in an instant, replaced by a look of profound, icy shock as she watched her wealthy, invincible lover crumble into a sweating wreck. "Wait, what step did you just take?" Elena demanded, stepping away from Julian as if his very presence was now contagious. She grabbed his arm, shaking him slightly. "Julian, what is she talking about? Who is she?"

Clara lowered her phone just an inch, her eyes fixed entirely on her trembling husband. "You always wondered why my father insisted on a completely separate financial structure before we married, Julian," Clara said, her voice carrying a quiet, devastating finality. "You assumed I was just a quiet graphic designer living off your modest vice-president salary. You never bothered to look at the foundational deeds. You never bothered to check who actually signed the commercial mortgages that keep this glass tower standing."

The security guards paused, sensing the seismic shift in the power dynamic, unsure whether to escort Clara out or stand at attention. Little Leo rested his head against Clara’s shoulder, finally falling fast asleep, completely immune to the structural collapse of his father's career.

Julian fell to his knees, utterly ignoring the scattered money he had thrown down moments earlier. The indignity of the corporate floor mattered little compared to the abyss opening beneath his feet. Without his salary, his stock options, his penthouse, and his social standing, he was nothing. He reached out, his fingers brushing the hem of Clara’s jeans. "Clara, please. For Leo. We can talk about this at home. Don't do this over a misunderstanding."

"Home?" Clara echoed, stepping back to break his pathetic grip. "There is no home, Julian. There is only the wreckage you built for yourself." Without another glance, she turned on her heel and walked toward the revolving glass doors, leaving the two of them standing in the ruins of their illusions.
