Chapter 2: The Silent Dismissal

The air in the fourteenth-floor conference room grew dense, thick with the heavy scent of spilled jasmine tea and corporate hostility. The man in the brown suit straightened his jacket, adjusting his cuffs with sharp, nervous jerks as he waited for some sign of submission. His chest heaved with residual adrenaline, expecting the twenty-eight-year-old in the green jacket to break under the pressure of public termination. Instead, the younger man merely slid his foldable smartphone an inch to the left, keeping his gaze fixed on the bright display. The mobile game's tinny soundtrack played softly against the deafening silence of the room. The brown-suited executive narrowed his eyes behind his thick glasses, his jaw clenching so hard a muscle twitched near his ear. He stepped back slightly, gesturing wildly toward the heavy glass double doors that led out to the bustling corporate hallway. The dismissal hung heavy in the air, echoing the harsh decree he had barked moments earlier. Colleagues whispered behind cupped hands, casting nervous glances toward the head of the table where executive power traditionally resided. The man in the green jacket finally lowered his phone, the hinge clicking softly as he folded the device shut. His movements were maddeningly unhurried, defying the frantic energy of the man who had just fired him. He looked up, his expression neutral, lacking any trace of fear, anger, or resentment. He did not plead for his job, nor did he gather his meager belongings from the sleek glass surface. He simply sat there, radiating an unexpected gravity that unsettled the senior managers flanking the room. The woman in the blue suit, seated at the head of the long table, watched the interaction with a penetrating, analytical stare. She had remained silent during the outburst, observing the dynamic like a chess grandmaster noting an opponent's opening blunder. Her long dark hair framed a face set in stone, her dark blue suit immaculate and unblemished by the chaos. She recognized that the man in the green jacket was not acting out of stupidity or shock. There was a deliberate cadence to his stillness, a calculated rhythm that suggested he possessed information far beyond the scope of a standard human resources dispute. The brown-suited man, sensing his authority slipping despite the verbal termination, slammed his palm onto the table once more. He demanded the security guards be summoned immediately to physically eject the trespasser from the premises. He wanted humiliation, public and absolute, to cement his own dominance over the division. Yet, the young man in the green blazer did not rise. He exhaled a soft, steady breath, letting the tension peak before making his next move.
