Chapter 15

The sun set slowly over the picturesque town of Oakhaven, casting long, golden rays across the maple trees and the white-picket fences that framed the valley. High above the bustling lumber yard, the windows of the second-floor apartment glowed with a warm, inviting amber light. Inside, the quiet peace of the evening settled over the rooms like a soft blanket.

Jax sat at the kitchen table, finishing up his paperwork for the upcoming week at Arthur’s repair shop. Across from him, Leo was engrossed in assembling a wooden model airplane, the glue sticking slightly to his fingertips as he carefully attached the propeller. The old faded photograph of a young biker holding a baby—the very catalyst that had started their entire journey—now sat neatly framed on the wooden mantelpiece above the electric hearth, flanked by a school portrait of a smiling, confident eight-year-old boy.

Jax looked up from his papers, leaning back in his wooden chair with a soft, contented sigh. The heavy leather vest hung neatly on a wooden peg by the front door, a relic of a lifetime he had successfully left behind. He no longer needed armor, because he was no longer running from his past. He was standing firmly in his present, anchored by the love of a son who had walked into a noisy diner and changed the entire universe with a single, whispered word.

Leo looked up from his model airplane, catching his father’s warm gaze. He didn't say anything, but a bright, knowing smile spread across his face, his big hazel eyes shining with absolute security and unconditional belonging. Jax returned the smile, his heart swelling with a profound sense of peace and completion.

The roar of distant motorcycles could still be heard faintly out on the highway miles away, rushing past in the gathering dusk toward destinations unknown, chasing shadows into the night. But inside this room, there was no need to chase anything ever again. They had found their destination. They had found each other. And as the quiet mountain wind whispered through the trees outside, Jax knew that the road ahead was finally, beautifully, their own.
