Chapter 15: The Dust That Settles as Gold

The sun dipped low below the western horizon, painting the Oklahoma sky in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and deep crimson. The heat of the day was finally giving way to a cool evening breeze that rustled the leaves of the old cottonwood trees flanking the homestead’s southern boundary.
