Chapter 2 - The Ghost In The Blueprint

Julian stared down at the glowing screen of his phone, the words of the distorted voice echoing endlessly in his mind. The screen went dark, the call disconnecting before he could utter a single word. Around them, the guests were beginning to murmur, shifting uncomfortably in their designer clothes. Victoria had already turned her back, walking toward the terrace doors as if nothing had happened. Julian clutched Lily tighter, feeling the frantic, rapid thumping of his daughter's tiny heart against his ribs.

"Daddy, I want to go to my room," Lily whimpered, burying her face into his tuxedo lapel.

"We are going right now, sweetheart," Julian whispered, his voice trembling despite his best efforts to remain strong. He signaled to his head of security, Marcus, a massive man in a dark suit who had finally pushed his way through the paralyzed crowd. "Get everyone out of here, Marcus. Lock down the estate. Nobody leaves."

Marcus nodded grimly, his eyes darting to the blinking red light beneath the mahogany table. Julian didn't wait for Marcus to clear the room. He carried Lily up the sweeping grand staircase, bypassing the staring eyes of his business associates and social acquaintances. Every step felt like walking through deep water. The luxury of his home, usually a sanctuary of success and safety, now felt like a gilded cage built by an invisible enemy.

Once inside the quiet safety of the upstairs hallway, Julian handed Lily over to her nanny, Sarah, who looked pale and shaken. "Take her to the nursery, lock the door, and do not open it for anyone. Absolutely anyone. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Mr. Vance," Sarah murmured, sweeping Lily into her arms and rushing down the corridor.

Julian retreated to his private home office, a wood-paneled room lined with leather-bound books and heavy velvet drapes. He slammed the heavy oak door shut and locked it from the inside. The phone in his hand vibrated again. Another text message from the Unknown Caller. He swiped the screen open with a thumb that refused to steady.

The message contained a single photograph, time-stamped just three minutes ago. It was a live feed of the nursery upstairs, showing Sarah and Lily walking through the door. But standing right outside the nursery window, perched precariously on the third-story ledge, was a masked figure holding a long-lens camera. Julian stared at the screen, the blood draining entirely from his face, realizing the intruder wasn't just inside his house—they were already outside his daughter's bedroom window.
