Chapter 10: The Alliance of Ghosts

The digital clock on the dashboard of the Maybach glowed 2:15 AM as Arthur sat in the backseat, staring blankly out the tinted window while his driver navigated the empty, rain-washed streets of Manhattan. The documents Julian had given him rested securely in his briefcase, a ticking time bomb of corporate corruption, federal collusion, and multi-million-dollar money laundering. Marcus Sterling was vulnerable, but he was also desperate—and a desperate animal with billions of dollars at his disposal was lethal.

Arthur didn't return to his Upper East Side brownstone. Instead, he directed his driver to his private penthouse office in Midtown, where Sarah Lin was waiting, having pulled an all-nighter analyzing the legal fallout from the viral video.

When Arthur walked through the glass double doors, Sarah looked up from her desk, her eyes bloodshot, clutching a fresh cup of black coffee. "Arthur, where have you been? My phone has been ringing off the hook. The board just called an emergency executive session for tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM. Marcus Sterling has the votes. They’re planning to oust you as CEO."

Arthur walked calmly to his desk, placed his briefcase down, and snapped open the brass latches. He pulled out the manila envelope containing the 1994 wire transfer receipts and the shell-company filings linking Marcus Sterling to the original federal conspiracy.

"Let them call their session, Sarah," Arthur said, his voice entirely devoid of fear, carrying a cold, steely resolve that Sarah had never heard before. "Call Elena Rostova. Tell our chief legal counsel to meet us here in thirty minutes. And contact the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York. Tell them we have a federal witness ready to testify regarding thirty-year-old financial crimes involving senior members of the financial district."

Sarah stared at the documents spread across the walnut desk, her hands trembling as she read the letterhead of the wire transfers. "Arthur... is this... is this what I think it is? Marcus Sterling financed Pendelton Capital?"

"He didn't finance it, Sarah. He bought me," Arthur said quietly, walking to the floor-to-ceiling window to watch the first pale streaks of dawn break over the Manhattan skyline. "And today, we’re going to foreclose on the mortgage."

"And the homeless man?" Sarah asked hesitantly, her voice barely a whisper. "The man from the video... Thomas Vance?"

"Thomas Vance isn't homeless anymore, Sarah," Arthur replied, a faint, genuine smile touching the corners of his mouth. "He’s my new senior partner. And he’s about to teach our board of directors a very expensive lesson in corporate history."
