Chapter 15

The sun dipped below the horizon, painting the American sky in brilliant shades of violet, orange, and deep indigo. The streetlights flickered on one by one along the quiet suburban block, casting warm, steady pools of light onto the sidewalks where evening strollers walked their dogs in peace.

Inside the apartment, the lamps were lit, filling the rooms with a golden, inviting glow that banished every corner of darkness. The heavy scent of white lilies was a distant memory, replaced by the simple, comforting aromas of home-cooked dinner and fresh laundry.
