Chapter 2 - The Sound of Sirens

The mahogany dining room echoed with the frantic gasps of Eleanor Vance, whose immaculate white updo was now completely ruined by the vibrant yellow saffron soup and a thin stream of crimson blood. Julian sat completely unbothered, watching the chaos he had meticulously engineered unfold before his eyes. Clara stood over them, her chest heaving, the velvet dress stained with broth and the bitter weight of realization crashing down on her shoulders.
"What have you done to her?" Clara stammered, her hands still shaking from the sheer adrenaline of the assault.
Julian slowly slid the legal document closer to Eleanor’s bleeding temple, tapping the signature line with a manicured finger.
"You played right into my hands, dear sister," Julian replied smoothly, his eyes devoid of any familial warmth. "Mother signed the restructuring papers right before dinner. And you, in your infinite rage, just committed aggravated assault on a public figure with witnesses present."
Eleanor struggled to lift her head, her face twisted in pure venom as she looked up at Clara.
"You ungrateful little beast," Eleanor shrieked, pressing a trembling hand against her bleeding forehead. "Guards! Security, get in here immediately!"
Heavy footsteps echoed from the grand foyer as two uniformed estate guards burst through the double doors, weapons drawn and expressions stunned at the horrific scene.
"Call the police," Eleanor ordered, her voice trembling with rage and pain. "Arrest her for attempted murder."
Clara backed away toward the French doors, but Julian was already blocking her exit, his phone raised to display an incoming video call to the local precinct.

"Don't bother running, Clara," Julian whispered with a dark grin. "The police are already three minutes away."
Suddenly, the grandfather clock in the corner struck eight times, and the heavy iron front gates outside began to screech open, signaling the arrival of the patrol cars.
