Chapter 9 - The Tactical Trap

Deafening flashbang grenades detonated in rapid succession near the main entrance, flooding the warehouse with blinding white light and a thunderous shockwave that rattled the concrete foundations. Julian screamed, dropping his weapon as the concussive blast threw him violently against the side of the shipping crates.
Before he could recover his footing, a coordinated unit of federal tactical operators in full body armor poured through the breached entrance, moving with mechanical, ruthless efficiency. Within seconds, Julian and Marcus were pinned facedown to the cold concrete floor, heavy zip-ties ratcheting tightly around their wrists.
Elena stepped out from the shadows of the wooden crates, brushing a layer of soot from her trench coat. She walked slowly toward the center of the room, her expression an unreadable mask of cold, resolute calm.
Arthur Sterling, who had apparently arrived with the federal detail, stood near the breached doorway, leaning heavily on a cane, his face pale and drained of all its usual arrogance. He stared at Elena as if she were a ghost—or something far more terrifying.
“You… you orchestrated this entire raid,” Arthur breathed out, his voice trembling as he leaned against the metal frame. “You set Julian up to draw him out into the open.”
Elena stopped a few feet away from the aging patriarch, looking down at him with an expression of profound, quiet contempt.
“Julian set himself up the moment he thought abuse and intimidation were substitutes for intelligence, Arthur,” Elena replied evenly, her voice cutting through the lingering smell of gunpowder. “And you enabled him every step of the way, prioritizing corporate profit over basic human decency.”
On the floor, Julian thrashed against the zip-ties, his face pressed into the dust as he glared up at her with pure, venomous hatred.
“You’ll pay for this, Elena!” Julian screamed, spittle flying from his lips as federal agents hauled him up to his feet. “You think the feds are going to protect you forever? My connections run deeper than you can possibly imagine! You’re nothing without me!”
Elena didn't even flinch. She leaned in close, her eyes narrowing into dangerous slits.
“I was never anything with you, Julian,” Elena whispered softly, her voice cold enough to freeze water. “And now, you’re about to find out what it feels like to be completely erased.”
As federal agents dragged Julian and Marcus toward the armored transport vehicles waiting outside in the pouring rain, Arthur Sterling stepped closer to Elena, his hands shaking slightly.
“The board… the board emergency vote was finalized ten minutes ago,” Arthur muttered, looking away in defeat. “You hold the majority voting shares now. Vance Global Enterprises legally belongs to you.”
Elena turned slowly to face the aging billionaire, the amber lights of the police cruisers flashing red and blue against her face.
“It’s not called Vance Global anymore, Arthur,” Elena said calmly, adjusting the collar of her trench coat. “Effective immediately, it’s being liquidated, and every stolen penny is going back to the victims.”

Before Arthur could reply, Elena turned her back on him and walked out toward the sleek black SUV waiting in the storm, unaware that a dark, unmarked sedan was trailing her from across the street.
