Chapter 14

Saturday morning dawned bright, crisp, and cloudless—the exact kind of perfect autumn weather Jax had been hoping for. The deep blue sky stretched endlessly over the suburban neighborhood as Jax rolled his heavy cruiser out of the garage, the deep, rhythmic rumble of the V-twin engine echoing down the quiet street. He wiped down the chrome handlebars, checked the tire pressure one last time, and strapped a small, sturdy passenger helmet onto the sissy bar.

Front door opened, and Leo stepped out onto the porch wearing a brand-new leather jacket that matched Jax’s, complete with a miniature silver wolf emblem pinned to the lapel. He carried his scuffed sneakers and wore a pair of sturdy riding boots that Jax had bought him earlier in the week during a trip to the local supply shop.

"Ready to roll?" Jax asked, tossing him a pair of protective riding gloves.

Leo caught the gloves smoothly, his hazel eyes shining with uncontainable excitement. "Born ready, Dad!"

Jax felt a surge of pure, unadulterated happiness wash over him. He walked over, knelt down, and carefully adjusted the chin strap on Leo’s helmet, making sure it was snug and secure. Then, he patted the boy’s shoulder and helped him climb up onto the heavy leather passenger seat of the cruiser. Leo wrapped his small arms securely around Jax’s waist, pressing his cheek against the sturdy leather vest right where the old faded photograph and Clara’s hidden letter rested in the pocket.

Jax kicked up the kickstand, twisted the throttle slightly, and smoothly pulled out of the driveway. They cruised down the sunlit suburban street, leaving behind the dark memories of poisoned cakes, deceitful lies, and lonely nights. As they accelerated onto the open highway that led toward the winding country roads, the cool morning wind rushed past them, carrying away the last lingering ghosts of the past.

They weren't just riding away from trouble; they were riding toward a future built on truth, resilience, and an unbreakable bond between a father and his son.
