Chapter 5

The sedan glided silently through the empty downtown streets, pulling into the subterranean parking garage of the Vance Logistics corporate headquarters. The massive concrete structure was lit by stark, fluorescent tubes, casting long shadows across the polished concrete floor. As the car came to a smooth halt, a security team of trusted operatives was already waiting by the private elevator bank. These were men and women who had stood by Marcus through decades of corporate warfare, fiercely loyal and entirely incorruptible.
Stepping out of the vehicle, Evelyn adjusted the emerald-cut diamond necklace that still glittered against her throat. The sparkling blue gown trailed slightly behind her as she walked briskly toward the private elevator, her mind shifting from defense to offense. The smartphone in her hand buzzed gently, signaling an incoming encrypted data packet.
Marcus punched a secure six-digit biometric code into the elevator’s wall panel, and the heavy steel doors slid open instantly. They stepped inside, ascending rapidly toward the top floor—the executive penthouse suite that doubled as the nerve center of their global operations.
“Did the remote server wipe the trap?” Marcus asked as the elevator accelerated upward.
“Completely,” Evelyn replied, tapping the screen of her phone. Her fingers danced across the glass with practiced speed, bringing up a complex dashboard of financial ledgers, encrypted emails, and audio recordings. “The moment Arthur confiscated my decoy device at the gala, he uploaded the malicious script straight into their primary network server. Every hidden shell company, every illicit offshore transfer, and every piece of corporate espionage the Sterlings conducted over the past five years is now being routed directly into our secure archives.”
Marcus nodded approvingly. “Arthur thought he was executing a brilliant corporate ambush. He didn't realize he was walking right into a digital honeypot.”
The elevator pinged softly, and the doors opened directly into a vast, glass-walled room overlooking the glittering expanse of the city below. Rows of glowing monitors lined the far wall, manned by cybersecurity experts working in concentrated silence. The atmosphere was charged with the quiet intensity of a command center during wartime.

Evelyn walked over to the main holographic console, projecting the data stream she had just downloaded into the center of the room. The glowing red lines of illicit financial transactions lit up the dark space, mapping out a vast web of corruption involving the Sterlings and several prominent city officials.
“They wanted Vance Logistics,” Evelyn said, her voice ringing clear and cold through the penthouse. “By sunrise tomorrow, we’re going to give them bankruptcy, indictments, and a complete dismantling of their entire empire.”
