Chapter 12

The rusted iron door of the old textile mill crashed against the concrete floor with a deafening metallic echo that startled the pigeons nesting in the rafters. Maya strode through the gaping breach, her blue work vest stained with grease and road dust, her knuckles wrapped in heavy electrical tape. Behind her, Viktor’s two enforcers lay unconscious in the alley, dismantled with the clinical efficiency of a professional demolition crew.

Viktor stood near the center of the cavernous warehouse, his switchblade glinting under the pale shafts of morning light filtering through the broken skylights. He looked battered, his expensive leather jacket torn at the shoulder, but his eyes burned with manic desperation. He realized his entire criminal enterprise—the offshore routing numbers, the architectural fronts, the protection rackets—was unraveling by the second.

"You don't know what you're destroying, courier," Viktor snarled, shifting his grip on the blade as he circled her like a cornered wolf. "This city runs on the grease of these deals. Without us, the whole economy of Fifth Street collapses into the river!"

"Then let it collapse," Maya replied coldly. She didn't wait for him to lunge. She closed the distance with a sudden, explosive burst of speed that defied the cramped, debris-strewn floor of the warehouse.

Viktor lunged forward, slashing the knife in a wild, desperate arc aimed at her throat. Maya ducked beneath the blade with millimeter precision, her left hand shooting out to grab his wrist and wrench it upward with agonizing torque. A sharp crack echoed through the cavernous space as Viktor’s wrist joint gave way under her leverage. The switchblade clattered uselessly against the concrete floor.

Before Viktor could cry out, Maya delivered a devastating knee strike straight into his chest, lifting his heavy frame off the ground before slamming him down hard onto an old wooden shipping pallet. The wood splintered under the impact with a thunderous crash, and Viktor lay motionless among the debris, his breath knocked out entirely, his criminal empire dismantled in less than three minutes.

Maya stood over him, breathing evenly, her posture as steady as granite. She reached into her vest pocket, pulled out the stolen land survey and financial ledgers, and dropped them directly onto Viktor’s unconscious chest like a death warrant. The evidence was preserved, secure, and ready to be handed over to federal investigators who had been tracking the laundering ring for months.
