THE MILLION-DOLLAR SLAP AND THE WIFE'S INVISIBLE HEIST

The marble floors of the luxury shopping pavilion in Beverly Hills gleamed under the afternoon sun, reflecting the endless wealth of the elite. Diana Vance, a thirty-four-year-old former forensic accountant turned socialite, walked with calculated precision. She wore a wide-brimmed black hat, oversized sunglasses, and a beige trench coat.

She wasn’t here to shop. She was hunting.

Through the massive glass displays of the Chanel boutique, Diana spotted her target. Chloe. A twenty-two-year-old aspiring model with platinum hair, currently swiping a limitless titanium black card that belonged to Diana's husband, Richard.

Richard was a corrupt hedge fund manager under secret investigation by the SEC for embezzling over fifty million dollars from his clients. Diana knew about the embezzlement. She also knew that Richard had converted all the stolen funds into cryptocurrency and loaded them onto a cold-storage hardware drive. The drive was a small, silver USB device.

Richard was paranoid. He knew his house, his office, and his safes were being watched by federal agents. So, he hid his ultimate escape fund in the one place no one would ever dare to look: the bottom of his naive young mistress's Birkin bag.

Diana took a deep breath, perfectly calibrating her emotions. The world expected a scorned, hysterical wife. And she was about to give them an Oscar-worthy performance.

Diana pushed open the heavy glass doors of the boutique.

"You!" Diana screamed, her voice echoing off the high ceilings, instantly halting the soft jazz music playing in the store.

Chloe spun around, dropping a pair of sunglasses. When she recognized Diana from the society magazines, her face flushed with panic. "Mrs. Vance, wait, I can explain—"

Diana didn't let her finish. She sprinted across the boutique like a wild animal. She lunged at the young girl, raising her hand high in the air.

SMACK.

The slap was loud, chaotic, and entirely theatrical. Chloe shrieked, stumbling backward into a display of silk scarves. In the perfectly orchestrated collision, Diana grabbed the strap of Chloe's $30,000 Birkin bag and violently yanked it downward.

The bag tipped over. Lipsticks, compact mirrors, car keys, and credit cards spilled across the polished marble floor.

"You homewrecker!" Diana sobbed hysterically, dropping to her knees amid the scattered items. She grabbed Chloe by the collar of her silk blouse, shaking her while crocodile tears streamed down her face. "You ruined my family! You ruined my life!"

"Get off me! Somebody help!" Chloe screamed, terrified and completely overwhelmed, desperately trying to push the seemingly unhinged wife away.

Two massive security guards immediately rushed over, grabbing Diana by the shoulders and pulling her off the weeping girl. Diana thrashed, screamed, and kicked, playing the role of the shattered, crazy wife to absolute perfection.

"Don't you ever come near my husband again!" Diana wailed, letting the guards drag her out of the boutique. A dozen shoppers had their phones out, recording the humiliating catfight. It would be on TMZ within the hour.

Chloe sat on the floor, hyperventilating, furiously gathering her scattered lipsticks and credit cards back into her purse. She was so traumatized by the public beating that she didn't realize her bag was one item lighter.

Ten minutes later, Diana sat in the driver's seat of her tinted Mercedes SUV in the underground parking garage.

The hysterical tears were gone. Her face was a mask of cold, terrifying calm.

She reached into the pocket of her beige trench coat and pulled out a small, silver USB drive.

A cruel, brilliant smile curled on her lips. The public catfight was never about a broken heart. It was a smokescreen. While screaming on the floor and shaking the mistress, Diana’s sleight-of-hand had been flawless. She had swapped Richard’s real crypto-drive with a dummy USB stick she bought on Amazon for five dollars.

Her phone buzzed. It was Richard.

"Diana! What the hell is wrong with you?" Richard screamed through the speaker, having just seen the viral video. "You assaulted Chloe in public? Are you insane? I am filing for divorce tonight!"

"I'm sorry, Richard," Diana whispered, her voice laced with mock devastation. "I just lost control. My heart is completely broken."

"You're pathetic," Richard spat. "I'm leaving the country tonight. You'll get the legal papers in the morning."

He hung up.

Diana laughed. A genuine, victorious laugh. Tonight, Richard would board a private jet to a non-extradition country, holding what he thought was fifty million dollars. But when he plugged that dummy USB drive into his laptop at thirty thousand feet, he would find absolutely nothing but empty space.

And by the time he landed, the FBI—whom Diana had just emailed an anonymous tip with the real financial ledgers—would be waiting for him on the tarmac.

Diana started the engine of her Mercedes, sliding the silver drive into her purse. She had lost a cheating husband, but she had just gained fifty million dollars and a brand new life.
