I THREW MY WIFE'S LOVER OUT THE DOOR — BUT HE WASN'T WHO I THOUGHT

Ryan Carter came home at 11:47 p.m. on a rainy Tuesday in Seattle. His shift at the warehouse had ended early. He parked his truck in the driveway and noticed a sleek black BMW he didn’t recognize sitting on the street.
The house was mostly dark except for the upstairs bedroom light.
He stepped inside quietly. The living room was empty. Then he heard it — low voices and a woman’s soft laugh coming from upstairs. His wife Claire’s laugh.
Ryan’s stomach turned to stone.
He climbed the stairs two at a time. The bedroom door was slightly open. Through the gap he saw Claire — his wife of fourteen years — on their bed with a shirtless man at least ten years younger. The man had his hands on her waist. She was smiling in a way Ryan hadn’t seen in years.
Something inside him snapped.
He kicked the door open so hard it slammed against the wall. The man jerked back. Claire screamed.
“Ryan—!”
Ryan didn’t speak. He grabbed the younger man by the arm and yanked him off the bed. The man stumbled, trying to pull up his jeans. Ryan’s fist connected with his jaw so hard the sound cracked through the room. The man flew backward, crashed into the dresser, then Ryan dragged him by the collar down the hallway, down the stairs, and straight out the front door into the pouring rain.
The man hit the wet driveway hard, rolled once, and lay groaning on the asphalt.
Ryan stood in the doorway, chest heaving, rain soaking his shirt.
“Get the fuck off my property,” he growled. “If I ever see you again, I’ll kill you.”
The man slowly pushed himself up on one elbow. Blood mixed with rain on his lip. He didn’t look scared. He looked… calm.
Claire appeared behind Ryan, wrapped in a sheet, crying.
“Ryan, stop! You don’t understand!”
Ryan turned on her. “Understand what? That my wife is fucking some kid in our bed?”
The man on the driveway stood up. He wiped blood from his mouth and looked straight at Ryan.
“My name is Tyler Reed,” he said, voice steady despite the rain. “I’m a private investigator. Your wife hired me three months ago.”
Ryan froze.
Claire stepped forward, her voice shaking but clear.
“I found the offshore accounts, Ryan. The ones you opened with money from the company. I found the tickets to Mexico for you and your secretary. I knew you were going to clean out everything and disappear.”
Tyler pulled a small waterproof camera from his back pocket and held it up.
“Everything that just happened is on film. Your violent reaction. Your threats. Your wife screaming for you to stop. I have six weeks of recordings of you and your secretary. Bank transfers. Deleted emails you thought were gone.”
Ryan’s face went white.
Claire’s voice was quiet now, almost gentle.
“I gave you so many chances. You chose to destroy our life. So I decided to make sure you didn’t destroy mine and the kids’ too.”
Tyler slipped the camera back into his pocket.
“The police are already on their way, Mr. Carter. Your wife filed a report this morning about suspected embezzlement. They have a warrant for your financial records.”
Ryan looked at his wife. The woman he had shared a bed with for fourteen years. She wasn’t crying anymore.
She was just watching him with tired, empty eyes.
From down the street came the faint sound of sirens cutting through the rain.
Claire pulled the sheet tighter around herself.

“You should probably run,” she said softly. “But it won’t matter. I already gave them everything.”
Ryan stood in the rain, fists still clenched, as the red and blue lights began to flash at the end of their street.
