I SHOVED MY CHEATING FIANCÉ AND MY TRAITOROUS BEST FRIEND INTO A LUXURY POOL—UNTIL A WATERPROOF RECORDER EXPOSED A DEADLY SECRET THAT SAVED MY LIFE.

The scorching July sun beat down on the glittering infinity pool of Villa Solano, a breathtaking cliffside estate overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in Marbella, Spain. It was the height of the summer social season, and two hundred wealthy guests in designer swimwear sipped chilled cava to the rhythmic beats of a live DJ. For twenty-nine-year-old Sienna Navarro, an art history curator and heiress to a prestigious Madrid gallery network, this party was supposed to be a celebration of her upcoming wedding to Mateo, a charismatic real estate developer she had loved unconditionally for three years.

Yet, as Sienna walked through the crowd holding a glass of sparkling water, an icy pang of anxiety twisted in her chest. Mateo had been suspiciously absent for the past hour. Worse still, so was Beatriz—Sienna’s lifelong childhood best friend and maid of honor.

Sienna navigated past the sun loungers and approached the secluded VIP cabana located near the deep end of the infinity pool, where white silk curtains fluttered in the warm sea breeze. When she gently pulled the curtain aside, the scene inside shattered her heart into a thousand jagged pieces.

Sitting intimately on the velvet daybed was Mateo. His hands were resting possessively on the bare waist of Beatriz, who was wearing a shimmering gold bikini and a sheer silk sarong. Mateo leaned in close, his lips brushing against Beatriz’s ear as she let out a soft, breathless gasp, her hands resting on his chest.

He wasn't just cheating on her. He was defiling their three-year romance with the one woman Sienna trusted more than her own sister, right at their own celebration.

A suffocating wave of primal jealousy, public humiliation, and blinding rage hijacked Sienna’s nervous system. The pounding party music faded into a dull, echoing hum. She didn't call off the wedding quietly. She didn't retreat into the villa to weep. Channeling a lifetime of absolute loyalty turning into explosive, righteous fury, Sienna stormed into the cabana, her heels clicking sharply against the wet marble deck.

"I hope the Marbella heat is to your liking, Mateo!" Sienna screamed, her voice tearing through the ambient music like a serrated blade.

Mateo froze. He spun around, his tanned face instantly draining of all color until he was as pale as the white cabana curtains. "Sienna?! God, what—what are you doing here? Wait, don't take another step! This is a complete misunderstanding!"

"Shut up, you repulsive traitor!" Sienna shrieked.

Before Mateo could utter another venomous lie, Sienna grabbed him by his bare shoulders with all her physical strength and shoved him violently backward. Mateo lost his balance on the slippery marble edge, crashing backward into the deep end of the infinity pool with a massive, thunderous splash that soaked the surrounding sun loungers and drew the gasps of fifty turning party guests.

Panting heavily, her chest heaving with fiery indignation, Sienna turned her wrath toward Beatriz. She wanted to look the homewrecker in the eye and strip away her arrogant facade in front of the entire Marbella elite. Sienna lunged forward, grabbing the knot of Beatriz’s silk sarong to pull her out into the open sunlight.

"You like sneaking around with my fiancé, you parasite?!" Sienna roared, pulling the fabric with brutal force. "How could you betray me after twenty years of friendship?!"

Sienna raised her open palm, ready to deliver a resounding slap across her best friend's cheek. But as she looked down into Beatriz’s eyes, her arm froze in mid-air. The breath completely vanished from her lungs.

Beatriz wasn't smirking. She wasn't crying tears of guilt or shame. Her dark brown eyes were dilated with pure, unadulterated, paralyzing terror.

And instead of fighting back or covering herself, Beatriz frantically reached into the waterproof pocket of her beach tote. With trembling, ice-cold fingers, she pulled out a heavy, professional-grade digital audio recorder embedded with a glowing red transmitting LED and thrust it directly into Sienna’s hands.

"My name is still your best friend, Sienna!" Beatriz gasped, shivering violently despite the summer heat as she looked frantically toward the pool. "I am not sleeping with him! I lured him into this cabana to keep him away from your drinks! Turn off the music and press play right now!"

The noisy poolside seemed to fall dead silent around Sienna. Confused and trembling, she pressed the playback button on the waterproof device.

Over the recorder's speaker, Mateo’s crystal-clear, sinister voice echoed out: "Once Sienna drinks that spiked champagne I gave her, the paralytic sedative will hit her nervous system in fifteen minutes. She’ll slip into the deep end of the pool, and with her lungs paralyzed, everyone will just think the heiress had a tragic, drunken swimming accident. As her legal fiancé with power of attorney, I inherit the Madrid gallery network by tomorrow morning."

The realization hit Sienna with the crushing force of a freight train. The world spun out of control. Mateo wasn't just an unfaithful lover; he was a cold-blooded, predatory sociopath who had orchestrated her murder at her own party to steal her family's fortune.

"I saw him emptying a vial into your champagne glass an hour ago, Sienna!" Beatriz sobbed, tears spilling over her cheeks. "I didn't have time to explain without him noticing and fleeing! I knocked your glass over, told him I wanted to hook up in the cabana, and wore this wire to capture his confession! If I hadn't kept him distracted here, you would be drowning at the bottom of this pool right now!"

Before Sienna could even process the horror, Mateo emerged from the water at the pool edge. Hearing his own recorded voice playing over the speaker, his handsome face twisted into a dark, murderous mask of pure rage.

"You little bitches!" Mateo roared, scrambling out of the water onto the wet tiles, lunging forward to grab the recorder. "I'll throw both of you off this cliff!"

As Mateo charged forward to attack them, the heavy wooden gates of Villa Solano burst open!

"Policía Nacional! Drop to the ground right now! Don't move!" boomed a voice over a tactical megaphone.

A dozen Spanish tactical police officers, led by Inspector Alejandro, swarmed the poolside deck with weapons drawn. Beatriz had silently triggered an emergency police broadcast on the device the exact moment Mateo began his confession in the cabana.

Within seconds, Mateo was tackled face-first onto the wet marble tiles, heavy iron handcuffs clicking tightly around his wrists as screaming party guests scrambled out of the way.

Sienna stood trembling by the pool edge, her heart hammering as she watched the man she almost married being dragged away into a police transport vehicle. Slowly, she turned to Beatriz. Overwhelmed with profound remorse and eternal gratitude, Sienna dropped to her knees on the wet deck, wrapping her arms fiercely around the brave young woman who had just risked her life and reputation to save her.

"I am so deeply, deeply sorry I doubted you, Beatriz," Sienna wept softly, burying her face into her best friend's shoulder as tears streamed down both of their cheeks.

Beatriz smiled warmly, hugging Sienna tight against the backdrop of the glittering Mediterranean Sea. "Never apologize, mi alma. Sisters protect each other—no matter what."
